Colle del Bricco, Oltrepo' Pavese, Lombardy

There are producers who make wine, and producers who give it back its voice. Matteo Maggi belongs to the second kind. Since founding Colle del Bricco in 2013, he has dedicated himself to recovering old vineyards in Oltrepò Pavese, a territory the Italian wine world has largely overlooked, and that is precisely what makes it interesting.

The philosophy is simple and uncompromising: organic farming, spontaneous fermentation, minimal sulphur, native varieties. And a guiding principle that says everything: producing less, but better.

A few wines stand out. The Riesling Italico, rare and almost forgotten in Italy, delivers a freshness and precision that surprises even seasoned wine lovers. Its quality is no secret: the Khione 2024 won a Gold Medal at GROW du Monde 2026, the only international competition in the world dedicated entirely to this variety. The Pinot Nero is equally compelling: elegant, territorial, nothing like the heavy reds that dominate Italian wine lists. And then there is One Night Stand, a skin-macerated Sauvignon Blanc from sixty-year-old vines, an orange wine with character and surprise in equal measure.

Matteo talks about his wines the way only someone truly passionate can, with knowledge and without performance. When a vintage does not meet his standard, he simply does not release it. A producer you trust from the first conversation.
